I've lived this first hand ...
In May 2011, a layoff notice landed in my teacher inbox (my fourth in seven years). Days away from closing on our first home, I didn’t know if I had it in me to start over again. Then my soon-to-be husband's dad lost his battle to brain cancer, and the answer seemed startling clear. Life was short, and the only job security I could trust was one that I created. So I put my faith in my work ethic, and set out to put my teaching, writing, and sales background to use.
At first, my "business" was a survival mode hodgepodge — renting out a room, taking every odd education or writing job, dipping back into network marketing to make ends meet.
But I kept going.
And little by little, my world transformed.
I led educators at two universities.
I became a respected content strategist in Santa Barbara, with a thriving agency serving mission-driven nonprofits and small businesses. I fired misaligned clients, grew through referrals, and crossed multiple six-figures with an enviable profit margin.
On paper, I was winning.
But my real life told a different story.
Working 80+ hours a week – weekends, nights, no vacations.
Raising my daughter with a laptop practically embedded in my hand.
Carrying the stress of dozens of clients and a team of contractors.
And unknowingly inching toward life-threatening adrenal fatigue. My body simply couldn't keep up.
I knew there had to be a better, more sustainable way. One where I could be profitable and healthy. Abundant and peaceful.

So I let go of almost every agency client ...
I rebuilt everything around simplicity, systems, and sanity. I stopped buying into the myth that I had to work harder or longer to make more money.
I went from not being able to conceive (and having an early miscarriage), to a healthy pregnancy.
When our son was born, I took a full 6 months off, and returned to a business that earned nearly $100k while I was working 30 hours a month instead of 80 a week.
I carved out time to begin building a different model – invested in trainings, ran webinars, spoke on virtual stages, coached small groups, and started to see a more sustainable income taking shape.
And then it felt like I ran into an invisible wall.
I built entire back-end systems and funnels for my programs, but instead of marketing them, I'd spin in self doubt and move on and build something new... leaving my beautifully crafted emails and social posts to get dusty in Google Drive.
I blamed adrenal fatigue. I blamed new mom brain. I blamed a lack of strategy.
It wasn't until I stripped all those away – sunset my agency, got my health in order, had a nanny for my son – that the real truth hit.
My missing link wasn't strategy – it was safety. I just didn't believe in myself enough to share my offers.
Not consistently. Not publicly. Not boldly. The little girl inside kept running for safety. Hiding so that I wouldn't be exposed as unworthy. Creating scarcity because that felt more familiar.
I also didn't trust that I could make my business grow without hustling harder.
Once I began nurturing her—held her hand and stepped forward together––everything changed.
